Inspire Africa Foundation

Inspire Africa Foundation
Inspire Africa is the brain child of Nigerian business woman and role model Mo Abudu. Inspire Africa has been created as Africa's first edutainment company. It is a company designed to inspire, educate, motivate and entertain.
Inspire Africa is about creating credible media driven platforms through which we can engage ourselves and the world to achieve effective and lasting change in our continent in theareas of leadership, entrepreneurship, education, health, development and empowerment.

The anchor project of Inspire Africa is the Moments with Mo; a daily talk show programme hosted by Mo Abudu and aired on MNet across 48 African countries and on Free to Air Channels by the end of 2008

The Inspire Africa Foundation is the human investment arm of Inspire Africa where we give back to society. The role and work of Inspire Africa would not be complete if we did not do something tangible to meet Africa at her point of need. Having engaged ourselves and the world, we as Africans must become actively involved in creating the change that we want. Whereas we appreciate the help that we have received thus far from the developed world, UN agencies, donor agencies and philanthropists, the time has now come for Africa and Africans to play a more active role in harnessing our resources to help our own.

Our founder, Mo Abudu has said that “Inspiration propels vision and great vision propels action”.

At Inspire Africa we are obsessed by this one fact:
vision alone is not enough. We must DO something

Make A Diferrence

Africa is the second largest continent in the world blessed with many natural resources, beautiful, exotic land and seascapes and a rich cultural heritage.
However, Africa is also known as the poorest continent in the world and the home to millions of dying children living without the hope to see the glory of a new dawn. These children are exposed to the ill effects of malnutrition, diseases, war and trafficking to mention but a few. Reports show that:

One in eight African babies (about 3.1 million infants) is born underweight each year.

About 120 000 African children participate in armed conflicts, some as young as seven years old.

Nearly two million children under 14 years are HIV positive.

There are an estimated 80million African child workers forced into slavery, prostitution, drug trade and other criminal activities.

The figures are staggering and the fact still remains that African children have the worst chances of survival in the world!

This is where we come in

An Ethopian proverb says “when spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion”.
Together, we can exorcise the unfavourable conditions our children are forced to live in. We have the ability to turn these facts around. We can make a difference in the lives of these young ones.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE AFRICA campaign is the first key initiative of the Inspire Africa foundation focused on inspiring the African child. It aims to support and make the world a better place for our children. Its belief is that we can achieve a lot if we work together and it is born from the fact that Africa has so much to offer. The key activities and events within the “make a difference campaign” include:

1. Benefit concerts
2. Sponsored walks for Africa
3. The publishing of a collection of 100 inspirational stories from Africa
4. The publishing of a collection of children's books
5. Donate a dollar and support an African child fund

Imagine a world filled with happy, well catered for and educated children. Think how far a little participation from every one of us, big and small, can go. Imagine the smiles on the faces of our children, the glow in their eyes and the laughter we could put in their voices. The little we do can cause a major difference in their lives. After all, the children are the future of our tomorrow

Inspire Africa award

Inspire Africa is proud to host the Inspire Africa award ceremony to honour the extraordinary accomplishments of ordinary African people.

In many ways Inspire Africa is a first for the entire African world. It's all about creating credible media driven platforms through which we can engage ourselves and the rest of the world as Africans. Inspire Africa is a purpose built vehicle by which Africans and the rest of the world will come to appreciate our culture and our achievements and to know and understand us as a people. We have realized that the ultimate task facing us as a continent is to build world class personas and brands to “showcase” our own achievements in a global setting and economy.

Our challenge is to credibly debunk the tendency of the western media that portrays us as the Dark Continent which exemplifies Disease, Despair, Destruction, Disaster, Destitution and Deceit.

Our chosen platforms for engagement include television, radio, publishing, merchandising, events, leisure and entertainment. However, one of our anchor projects is the Inspire Africa Awards that will be held every year from 2009.

The Inspire African Awards will highlight the life and accomplishments of a usually well known but sometimes obscure African individual who by his or her own tenacity and determination has accomplished something, overcome something or been a catalyst for something that makes him or her, a role model to others.

It is critical to the success of our continent that we showcase role models, demonstrate possibilities in a realistic setting. Honouring the achievements of these role models will inspire and encourage millions who will see them across the African continent and beyond.

The Inspire Africa Awards will provide an elaborate and well deserved “pat on the back” for the individuals among us who define the future of Africa. As Africans, we should put ourselves in the absolutely best light and extol all of the things that are good about us in order to inspire others to achieve and excel.

The Inspire Africa Awards will be a rallying point where Africans recall the beauty, wisdom, the tenacity and patience and ultimately, the accomplishments of our people, a place where we are challenged to be who we are as individuals, as nations and as a continent. But most of all we will celebrate the “Inspire Africa Individual”.

A panel of judges will be set up to determine the most deserving awardees of African and others of non African descent based on the following criteria:

Ordinary people who have done extraordinary things and achieved against all odds

People recognised for their notable achievements

People that have demonstrated integrity and high moral values

People dedicated to community service

Change agents within Africa

Modern day heroes in Africa

Panel members will not be allowed to vote for their employees or family members.

We urge everyone to send in nominations to our email address awards@inspire-africa.com. THE DEADLINE FOR THE RECEIPT OF ENTRIES IS DECEMBER 31st 2008.

The celebration of the “Inspire Africa Individual” is a far overdue tribute to you and me. It is up to you to give that tribute to whom it is due!

I end with a quotation from Nelson Mandela and he says that “As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same”.

Help us Inspire Africa!

Mo’s chosen platforms for engagement will include television, radio, publishing, merchandising, events, leisure and entertainment.
However, her dramatic anchor project will be the Moments with MoAired weekly, each episode of Moments with Mo will highlight the life and accomplishments of a usually well known, but sometimes an undiscovered African individual who by her or his own tenacity and determination has accomplished sometimes, overcome something that makes her or him a role model to others.
The program will be anchored and presented by Mo, who in the past few years has already become a household name and even a heroine to a wide range of African audiences.
Brimming with a defined sense of purpose, Mo has become a kind of evangelist for accomplishment. Thematically, Moments with Mowill take full advantage of her defiant and always challenging “yes I can” attitude, always putting pressure on the individual to stand up and be counted.
